How to do Ombre Gel Nail Design?

by Membership Makartt 29 Feb 2024

Creating an ombre nail design using polygel and gel polish involves a slightly different process compared to regular nail polish. Polygel offers a more flexible and durable option, and when combined with gel polish, it can create stunning, long-lasting ombre effects. Here's how to do it:

What You’ll Need:

  1. Prepare Your Nails: Clean your nails, push back the cuticles, and shape your nails as desired. Use a buffer to gently roughen the surface of your nails for better adhesion. Clean the nails with an alcohol wipe afterward.

  2. Apply Base Coat: Apply a thin layer of gel base coat to your nails and cure under a UV or LED lamp according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  3. Apply Polygel: If you’re extending your nails, place the nail form under your nail tip. Squeeze out the polygel onto the nail or form, and use the slip solution to shape the polygel with your brush. If you're not extending your nails, apply the polygel directly onto your nails and shape it. Cure under the lamp.

  4. Shape and Buff the Polygel: Once cured, shape the polygel nails with a file and smooth the surface with a buffer. Clean off any dust with an alcohol wipe.

  5. Apply Gel Polish for Ombre: Apply your chosen colors directly to the nail or onto a palette. Using a flat or ombre brush, pick up a small amount of each color. Start blending the colors on the nail, working quickly before curing. You can blend the colors on the nail by brushing them together where they meet, creating a gradient effect. Clean your brush between strokes if necessary.

  6. Cure the Gel Polish: Once you’re satisfied with your ombre effect, cure the nails under your UV or LED lamp according to the gel polish manufacturer's instructions.

  7. Apply Top Coat: Apply a gel top coat over the ombre nails and cure under the lamp to seal in the design and add a glossy finish.

  8. Hydrate: After your nails are fully cured, use a cuticle oil around your nails to hydrate and nourish the skin.

Tips for a Perfect Ombre:

  • Practice the Ombre Technique: Before applying gel polish on your nails, practice blending the colors on a palette or a piece of paper to get a feel for the gradient effect.
  • Work in Thin Layers: Gel polish can get thick; to avoid this and ensure a smooth gradient, apply the colors in thin layers.
  • Cure Properly: Ensure each layer is properly cured under the lamp to prevent smudging or blending of uncured layers.

Using polygel and gel polish for your ombre nails not only gives you a beautiful, gradient effect but also provides the durability and strength that traditional nail polish can’t match.

Enjoy your stunning ombre nails!
